Tillandsia for the Minimalist

Life is really simple, but we
insist on making it complicated
.”
-Confucious

If a minimalist were to get a plant then it would have to be a tillandsia because they are simple and require no messy dirt. These “blocks” with tillandsia are perfect because of the clean, simple shape.

The tillandsia include Bulbosa, Butzii and Pseudobaileyi and they all like the same shady environment. They do not like direct sunlight! Normally these tillandsia grow upside down so when they are watered they would need to be turned over to shake out the extra water.

The wood blocks are the legs to a bed but were recycled into a perfect support for these tillandsia. They were useless for the bed since there are only 3 of them.

We normally say treated wood is not great for these air plants but in this case the legs have a coating that keeps the plant away from the Chromated Copper Arsenate in the wood.

We unscrewed the little “feet” that were in the legs and set them aside, Then we used E6000 to glue the tillandsia into the recessed spot the feet were in then dressed it with a very small amount of moss and that’s it. You could use a little bit of sand to cover the glue instead of moss if you really wanted to keep it minimal.

We’re quote freaks so we’ll leave you with some more “minimalist” quotes…

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupery
