A Brown Thumb Can Grow Succulents

My green thumb came only as a result of the mistakes I made while learning to see things from the plant’s point of view.” -H. Fred Dale

Do you have a brown thumb or maybe the dreaded black thumb of death? Do you murder your plants on a regular basis? Have you reached that point of buying plastic plants that none of us EVER want to get to!? Well…luckily you won’t go to prison for murdering plants but in case no one ever told you, succulents might be a good option assuming you are ready to end your recent killing spree.

If you’re familiar with succulents we’re probably not telling you anything you don’t already know but for the plant challenged this may be of interest 🙂 Also great for the plant growing beginner to help gain some confidence.

Fact: All cactuses are succulents, but not all succulents are cactuses.

Succulents have a shallow root system so Bonsai pots are perfect – like these little ones we started in the kitchen window. Yes, these are very minimal and tiny but they are also just plain cool looking. The tiny Bonsai pots are the perfect size to start small plants – only a couple inches across.

Once they get too big for the pot and/or the windowsill you can move them to a larger pot and find somewhere else to put them. Then you can snap off a little piece from the larger succulent and begin all over again – it’s that easy.

If you prefer grouping a few starter succulents in the same pot, go ahead, they will do fine all in one container. That’s usually how you see them at the nursery.

We hope you give succulents a try before you buy those plastic plant eyesores. The pot can be plastic but not the plant and no, they do not look real – get glasses 😉
