Two Seconds of Comfort Kills Old Growth Forests

To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug.“ -Helen Keller

Let us ask you this question: Is your two seconds of comfort really worth the destruction of the planet’s trees and old growth forests? Remember, forests clean your air, help regulate climate and give you oxygen to breathe.

America’s addiction to super soft, quilted, multi-ply toilet tissue made from virgin forests causes more harm than gas guzzling automobiles. The amount of energy and resources needed to cut, transport and process trees into rolls of toilet paper are staggering, especially when it all gets flushed down the toilet.

It is the fiber taken from standing trees that help give tissue that plush feel. Not only in toilet tissue, but paper products in general, like regular tissues, napkins and paper towels.

According to National Geographic, the equivalent of 270,000 trees worldwide become garbage, PER DAY! Ten percent of those trees (27,000) are from toilet paper waste being flushed down the toilet.

We strongly recommend investing in reusable cloth napkins as well as cloths for cleaning. The amount of dirty napkins and cleaning rags won’t make or break the amount of laundry you already do. We also strongly recommend using 100% recycled toilet tissue.

You can download a guide compiled by Greenpeace to help you choose the best eco-friendly paper products. There is also a guide at National Resources Defense Council.

You can also find an app for your iPhone or Android phone to help you with an informed purchase.

Every single one of you can make an enormous difference in the amount of resources we can save from landfills. The big paper companies using virgin trees won’t want you to do this and will tell you anything to make you continue to purchase their products …don’t fall for it like the trees did.

Products that can be recycled, reclaimed, repurposed and reused are always better than something you use one time then throw away. Try to get at least one person to make the switch! Future generations will thank you including your children and your grandchildren. Yes…that was meant to make you feel guilty.
