Create Because You Enjoy Creating!

The essential part of creativity is not being afraid to fail.” -Edwin H. Land

ArtI recently received some advice on creating things and now I’m passing it forward. You should create whatever you feel like creating and not care what other people think about it…. as long as you’re happy doing it, then who cares! Don’t worry about the outcome, just do!

Noun
1. The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture,…: “the art of the Renaissance”
2. Works produced by such skill and imagination.

Sometimes I just enjoy throwing things together to see what happens and that’s how this thing came to be. I threw it together by doing whatever popped into my head first without caring if it worked ….mostly to see what happened and to keep busy because I was really bored that day.

I was raking the side yard a couple weeks ago and that’s when I found the rusty chain buried beneath the leaves and overgrown bushes. One of the joys of living in a rental home is you never know what you’ll find buried in the yard, and this was one of those finds. I think most people would have thrown it away but me ….I had to use it for something. I can’t help it, I love rust!

Rusty Chain

Then I paired the rusty chain with a distressed frame I made from the post, Distressed Beach-Style Decor.

Empty Frame

I secured the chain to the frame by wrapping 19 gauge, Dark Annealed Steel Wire around them both of them. The type of wire wasn’t important, it was the wire closest to where I was sitting and I liked it well enough.

Then I found more of these interesting things I’ve used before that were found at the hardware store… I don’t know what they are but I like their shape. I decided to add some paint using Sharpie paint markers.

Painted Scrap

Then I attached them to the frame and the chain with some E6000 adhesive. The Plant Man was watching me and he was fiddling around with the same wire and he made a spiral thinngy that I took and added to the center of the frame …..just because. I just liked how it looked in the middle.

Then I sprayed the whole thing with a clear enamel gloss.

Art

Don’t worry about the outcome, just create art (or whatever) because you really enjoy doing it. Feel the world slip away as you enter your own meditative zone while you create.

  1. I LOVE this piece of craft, especially the bright colours matched with the rust. I’m off to get myself some sharpies 🙂 Where are you going to display it? Stacey

Thanks Stacey! We hung it by the front door 🙂 And those are paint Sharpies, not the regular Sharpie.
